AGE DIVISIONS

The program at BRAJHA, in partnership with the FSU Ice Arena, adheres to the USA Hockey Player levels.  The below age classifications are set to the calendar year: Jan 1 - Dec. 31st of any given year.  Please see below the different divisions we currently offer our players: 

Learn to Skate: An instructional program for our NEW over 4-year-old players who are new to skating. All skaters must start out in this level. It is designed to help the skater become more comfortable on the ice, with an emphasis on balance, coordination, body movement and gross motor skills. Four sessions throughout the year, September through April. 

Learn to Play: An instructional program for our NEW over 4-year-old players who have never played hockey. Players of any age are welcome to join this program! Skating technique is emphasized. along with individual hockey skills. Stick skills (puck handling, passing, shooting) and game play are introduced at this level. Helmet with mask, gloves, knee & elbow pads required. October and January sessions. 

Mini-Mites: An instructional program (for ages 5-8) that is for the 2nd or 3rd year skater who has progressed through both LTS and LTP . This is an age specific team level, with skaters playing cross-ice games at the Mini-Mite or Mite level. Full equipment is needed for this level. October through February. 

** FSU Ice Arena has full sets of equipment available for yearly rent. Equipment is available each session as well, free of charge. Skates can be rented at the pro-shop for $2.00. 

** The IP Program is very important for the development of skaters/hockey players. Players moving into Team Play (BRAJHA) must be approved by staff. 

Mites: An instructional cross-ice league for our skaters age 7 & 8 (8U), taking part in practices and game situations (commonly referred to as Jamborees) utilizing cross-ice or half-ice. 

Squirts: An instructional league for our skaters 9 & 10 (10U), taking part in practices and game situations.  

Pee Wee: An instructional league for our skaters age 11 & 12 (12U) taking part in practices and game situations. 

Bantam: An instructional league for our skaters age 13 & 14 (14U) taking part in practices and game situations. 

JV is a HS Prep 2 Team:  An instructional league for our skaters 18 and under, taking part in practices and game situations. 

· NOTE: A player can never "play down" a level. For example, a ten-year old cannot play as a Mite. However, a player can "play up" a level, such as an eight-year old playing as a Squirt. The decision to play a child "up" should be taken seriously. Parents are strongly encouraged to have a discussion with their child's coach, as well as the BRAJHA Hockey Director.   Coaches are expected to provide parents with honest feedback regarding a child's performance and skillset.  Player safety and well being are paramount.
